Winter Woollies - The Boucle Trend

Winter Woollies - The Boucle Trend

As New Zealander’s it’s only natural for us to lean toward the soft and fluffy, after all we’re surrounded by over 20 million of them!

However, this gorgeous trend is not only NZ wide, beautiful Bouclé fabrics are quite the rage throughout the world.

A cosy enveloping fabric, Bouclé is a looped yarn gaining its name in the 1940s when Florence Knoll asked industrial designer Eero Saarinen to design a chair that she could “really curl up in.”

Unbeknownst to her he interpreted her phrase right down to the fibre. Saarien’s now famous ‘womb chair’ debuted in 1948 featuring Knoll’s Classic Bouclé fabric.

Revitalised as all good trends are, Bouclé is back and better than ever.

This gorgeous & generally monochrome textile is perfect to create warmth in every room.

Here's a few of my current favourites

Grande Boucle - Catherine Martin for Mokum

Fabio fabric - The Inside
